Mike Sommerfeld has spent years building one of the most talked-about physiques in professional bodybuilding. He has also spent years struggling to find a casual sportswear that fits it.
That second problem is the reason this collaboration exists. The German IFBB Pro is now part of the NEBBIA family, and the line we have built together is not gym wear — it is everything you wear once you leave the gym, cut for the proportions that training actually gives you.
Who Is Mike Sommerfeld?
Born and raised in Heidelberg, Germany, Mike Sommerfeld – known across social media as “Mike the Badass” – found bodybuilding as a teenager and never looked for anything else. His influences are the golden-era names, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Frank Zane, and it shows in how he competes. He never chased size for its own sake. He chased the shape that size is supposed to serve.
That instinct led him to the right division. Classic Physique is bodybuilding’s answer to the question what if mass had to stay beautiful? Athletes are capped by weight relative to height, so every kilogram has to justify itself. Wide shoulders, a genuinely small waist, hard conditioning, no bloat. Sommerfeld’s frame was practically written into the rulebook.
Away from the stage he works as a certified performance coach and has built an audience of hundreds of thousands on Instagram and YouTube, where he is unusually open about the unglamorous half of the sport – the weekly meal prep, the peak weeks that go wrong, the mistakes he owns publicly.
The Training Philosophy Behind the Physique
Ask Sommerfeld what matters most in the gym and he does not say load, split or frequency. He says focus.
He is one of the loudest modern advocates of the mind-muscle connection, and he trains accordingly – headphones in with no music playing, purely to shut out the room, and eyes closed through working sets so nothing competes with the sensation of the muscle contracting. Feeling every inch of the range beats adding weight to the bar.
Nutrition follows the same logic: a full week of meals prepped in one session, protein anchored on beef and chicken, oil applied with a spray bottle so nothing is estimated.
Mike’s Career and Accolades
His rise was steady rather than sudden, which is part of why the sport takes him seriously.
He entered his first amateur show in 2014, placing third at the Arnold Classic Europe. Five years later he debuted in the IFBB Pro League at the 2019 Romania Muscle Fest Pro, competing in the 212 division and finishing 13th – a quiet start that gave little hint of what came next.
The turning point came with his move to Classic Physique in 2020, where he almost immediately took silver at the IFBB British Grand Prix. In 2021, he won the Xtreme Bodybuilding & Fitness Pro, securing his first qualification for the Olympia. That same year, he also claimed victory at the Poland Pro Supershow.
Classic Physique Olympia: From Seventh to Runner-Up
His Classic Physique Olympia record tells the story better than anything else:
| Year | Placing |
| 2021 | 7th (debut) |
| 2022 | 5th |
| 2023 | 8th |
| 2024 | 2nd |
| 2025 | 2nd |
The 2024 result changed everything. After a 2023 that nearly pushed him out of the top ten, almost nobody had him on the podium – and he finished runner-up to Chris Bumstead in what became the six-time champion’s final show. Overnight, Sommerfeld went from contender to heir apparent.
He backed it up on 28 February 2025 by winning the Arnold Classic in Columbus, the biggest title of his career. At the 2025 Mr. Olympia he again took second, this time behind Ramon Dino, making him runner-up two years running.

The Road to Mr. Olympia 2026
He arrived at the 2026 Arnold Classic in Ohio expecting to be re-measured for height, having adjusted his competition weight to the higher limit he anticipated. However, according to available information, the re-measurement did not take place; consequently, based on his previously recorded height, he failed to meet the Classic Physique weight limit and ultimately did not compete.
He addressed the situation himself, taking responsibility without making excuses, and immediately set his next goal. Four weeks later, he delivered his answer on stage by winning the 2026 Arnold Classic UK in Birmingham.
Attention now turns to Mr. Olympia 2026 in Las Vegas, 24–27 September, where he arrives as one of the clear favourites for the one title still missing from his record.
The NEBBIA x Mike Sommerfeld Collection
Classic Physique is judged on shoulder-to-waist ratio. So, in a less formal way, is every lifter’s experience of buying clothes.
Buy a shirt that fits your shoulders and it hangs off your waist. Buy one that fits your waist and you cannot raise your arms. Trousers that fit your quads are loose everywhere below the knee. The high street cuts for an average build, and training deliberately makes you not average.
That is the brief Mike brought us, and the reason this line is not another set of training pieces. It is what he wears when he is not training – dinner, travel, the expo floor, the flight home. Off-duty clothing, cut for an on-duty body.
Every piece shares the same athletic slim fit: broader through the shoulders, tapered at the waist, finished cleanly with no bulky seams, and cut to a length that works tucked or untucked. Branding is deliberately quiet – a minimalist logo in high-density direct embroidery, stitched tightly enough to hold sharp edges up close. No prints, no oversized wordmarks. If you want a shirt that announces itself, this is not the line.
The anchor of the collection and the piece Mike pushed hardest for. A white or black button up shirt for men built with a back yoke that allows real stretch across the shoulders, tapered waist shaping, and a modern collar that stays soft rather than stiff – dressed up for dinner, sleeves rolled for everything else.
Men’s muscle fit T-Shirt

The everyday piece. Tapered through the waist, clean at the seams, and long enough to stay put whether it is tucked or not.
Men’s Slim Polo
The same athletic slim cut with a modern collar. The step up from a t-shirt when a t-shirt is not quite enough.

Men’s Slim Commuter Trousers

The piece that solves the hardest fit problem in the collection. A slim taper from the knee down, but built with genuine room through the seat and glutes, on a mid-rise waist. Trousers you can actually sit down in after leg day.
What Comes Next
Sommerfeld’s career is a straightforward argument for patience. Thirteenth on debut. Seventh, fifth, then backwards to eighth. Then two Olympia silvers, an Arnold Classic title, a very public failure in Columbus, and a win four weeks later.
That is not a highlight reel. That is ten years of showing up.
Whatever your own goal is – a first show, a first pull-up, or a body that simply works better than it did last year – the method underneath his results is available to anyone.
